The U.S. Census is required under the U.S. Constitution to occur every 10 years and is the process of counting every resident in the country.
Why It Matters? This is the first time the census will be conducted mostly online, and census results are used to:
- target more than $675 billion in federal funds to states/counties for programs that support local residents
- guide community decision-making affecting schools, housing, health care, emergency services and more
- allocate seats and draw district lines for the U.S. House of Representatives and state and congressional districts
